Now you have come to the page, Choose variable. This page give you the oportunity to select which variables and values you want to display in your result of the table. A variable is a property of a statistical unit. The page is divided into several boxes, one for each variable, where you can select values by click to highlight one or more values. It always starts with the statistics variable which is the main value counted in the table.

Year 2016: The area of forestry land is based on the 11th National Forest Inventory (NFI11), 2009-2013.
Year 2019: The results for the whole country, Southern- and Northern Finland have been calculated using the measurements of NFI12 during the years 2014-2017.
Regional results have been calculated using the measurements of last five years (2013-2017) in NFI11 and in NFI12. In the Åland Islands and in Northern Lapland only the measurements of NFI11 have been made for the present.

Area type

.Other nature reserves on state-owned land 1A

Other state nature reserves established under the Nature Conservation Act (NCA), nature reserves established by the decision of Metsähallitus, and private nature reserves in governance of Metsähallitus.

.Sites reserved for nature conservation on state-owned land A1

Areas designated as conservation areas in nature conservation programmes, the METSO programme and in regional land use plans (SL areas).

.Other protected areas on state-owned land 1B

Protected forests of Metsähallitus (public administration duties); conservation sites indicated as S-areas in regional land use plans and protected under the Nature Conservation Act, the Water Act, the Land Extraction Act or the Land Use and Building Act (no forestry measures in the areas).

.Statutory habitat protection areas in state-owned commercial forests (FA, NCA) 1B

Special biodiversity sites in commercial forests, no forestry measures / selection cutting possible for nature management purposes 2A

- Areas designated as conservation areas by the decision of Metsähallitus with no forestry measures; protected forests of Metsähallitus (not transferred to the governance of public administration duties)
- Areas designated to safeguard biodiversity in connection with landscape ecological review of Metsähallitus's nature resource planning, where selection cutting may be allowed for nature management purposes
- Also covers the corresponding areas in privately owned and company-owned land

.Biodiversity sites in state-owned commercial forests, restricted forestry use 2B

Valuable forest habitats designated in Metsähallitus's nature resource planning or other planning, with restricted forestry use (Souce :Environmental guidelines to practical forest management, Metsähallitus, 2011).
